A Few Accomplishments

Currently, riding as an amateur for Ireland at International Small Tour Level and Grand Prix on a National level.

Competing at Grand Prix level with Naomi, and CDI Small Tour with Ungaro and Fourth Level with Truman.

  • In 2011, Naomi and Sonia Zugel earned an Adult Amateur Award of 12th Place with an average score of 65%
  • Earned NEDA CDI 9th PSG and 6th I1 CDI with Ungaro in 2011
  • Awarded The PSG East Coast Riders Cup Reserve Champion riding Ungaro in 2011
  • Earned Silver Medal with USDF in 2010
  • In August 2010, competing in Saugerties, I1 East Coast Riders Cup Reserve Champion on Naomi and The PSG East Coast Riders Cup Champion on Napoleon.

Bio Background

Sonia was introduced to dressage in 2005 and by December 2009 had moved up to the PSG level. Today, Sonia is riding as an amateur for Ireland at international Small Tour Level and Grand Prix on a National level.

Sonia Zugel was born in Cork, Ireland and currently lives in Holmdel, New Jersey with her husband Christian Zugel and two daughters Ashleigh and Lucia.

From 1997 – 2001, Sonia was Vice President of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations for Claire’s Stores (1,300 store chain in North America and Europe). Previously, Sonia held various accounting positions from 1986 – 1997.

Prior to dressage, Sonia’s horse career evolved from fox hunting in Ireland and Simi Valley California, following a family tradition of MFH (Master of Fox Hounds); to Amateur steeplechase events in California; followed by eventing in New Jersey.
